William Richardson papers 1780-1787.

Real estate document, 13 Jan. 1780, between Richardson and Theophilus Hill for Richardson's purchase of a plantation on the Wateree River [which flows primarily through Kershaw County, S.C.], a house and lots in Camden, S.C., leather, tobacco, 100 acres of land near Log-Town, and a large boat "with three boat negroes... one man named Carolina, one named Isaac, and one other man named Carolina." Broadside, 23 Nov. 1787, advertising sale of "high blooded Mares, Colts and Fillies" and listing the pedigrees of several of the horses (photocopy).

Theophilus Hunter Hill, poet and librarian of Raleigh, N.C., who edited The Spirit of the Age, a Raleigh newspaper, and The Century of South Carolina. In 1861, Hill's first volume of poetry, Hesper and Other Poems, was published in Raleigh, the first book issued under the copyright laws of the Confederate States of America.
